The Mighty Pencil -- HOW TO SUPPORT THE WRITERS

SNL's Will Forte and Kristen Wiig demonstrate an easy, fun way that fans can take action to support all the WGA writers on strike.

NOTE: If you send pencils through the mail, please send UN-sharpened pencils. Thank you! - your currently unmaimed postal worker

Is the director who filmed it supporting the strike 'cause we're still waiting on the DGA to announce its support, never to late ;)

Hey, just wanted to let you know your (the WGA's) cause is supported by millions of moving arts fans all over the world, and it's a great idea to keep this and the video blog out...

what with the thousands of creative minds you've got picketing the lines, there's bound to come something amazing out even of a crappy situation like this.

ps linked to your mighty pencil campaign thing through some blogs, hope that's ok...

Is it really necessary to pay leading actors upwards of 20million dollars for a single movie? I mean Keanu Reeves pocketed over 100 million for the Matrix movies and well, "insert your own punchline there." While trying to make a joke about Keanu's less than stellar acting abilities I came across this article about his wonderful generosity: http://www.hellomagazine.com/film/2003/05/28/keanureeves/ Whoa! Only if pay scales weren't so out of whack, maybe we could all be happy, instead of some of us fighting for food, while others are giving away fortunes. Either way Keanu...Respect.

Paul,

Unfortunately, if the studios didn't pay Keanu that money, it's not like they would have given it to the writers or crew. They would have just pocketed it.

It's the same way I feel about big-name athletes making ridiculous salaries. Yes, it seems silly that Mike Lowell is going to get $37.5 million for 3 years work. But as long as Red Sox Nation is going to be ponying up millions in tickets, t-shirt sales, and ad revenue, I'd rather have that money going to the players we're all paying to see rather than just to the owners.

Pretty much the only thing I've learned from these posting boards is that David Grenier is in serious need of a life.

What about the second most important use for a pencil, drawing? I mean if your going to cover the 3rd and fourth most important uses for pencils, protest devices and cigarette substitutes, the second most important use for pencils should also be covered.

Hi I'm from The Netherlands and I follow a lot of your series over the internet. (currently Chuck, Heroes, Prison Break, Journeyman, The Unit, Bionic Woman, Life)
This TV season is the best season ever to me. We don't have HD TV here, and we don't have Kristen Bell, Hayden Panettiere or Yvonne Strahovski. We have all the Hollywood movies in the theaters but I mostly switched over to watching series in the last 3 years.
In my opinion you guys are cutting off your own hands and you are killing the best TV shows ever.
Please stop the strike and get your respect through what you guys do best.

Pencils sharpened by the United Nations? That's going to be tough.

Great video.

But, are you paying for the licensing of the music used in it?

After all, fair is fair. Musicians and composers deserve their fair share as well.

To Anonymous from the Netherlands:
You completely missed the boat. And at the same time, backed up the WGA with a perfect case in point. You in your country can watch all of these shows online for free. Wherever and whenever you want. Isn't this new medium of viewing online fantastic!? Well, the writers of these shows you enjoy simply want a fair (and modern) contract that will reflect the billions of ad revenue that will be generated for corporate pockets in this new digital way. In this wonderful era when your computer and TV could meld as one, isn't it only fair that hard work is compensated in this new medium, too?

Hey Anonymous 1:47,

The musician gave the producers permission to use his music. Don't be such a smarty-pants.

Hey Anonymous 3:15,

Don't use such vitriolic barbs like "smarty-pants." Yeesh!

Hey, what if there's a porn strike? I'm gonna need some bigger envelopes...

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE VIDEO? I was just trying to forward it to some friends. It's one of the funniest things to have come out of the strike...WHERE DID IT GO? Was it the erect pencil that took it off the web? What's wrong with pencil porn??? At least you can erase it...which is obviously what happened.

I take it back...the Will Forte pencil video is still on YouTube at:
