WGA these tactics you’re employing are disgustingly selfish. You're driving the REAL middle class out of the industry, people who; don't have agents and multi-million dollar deals, have to work just as hard and as long to make it in the business and then deal with the same job uncertainty you do with much smaller pay and without residuals every month… these are the people that will suffer from your selfish strike because they can’t afford to be unemployed for 6 months like you... and it will take them years to pay off the loans and debt they have to take on to survive your strike.

Dear Anonymous,

Most writers are middle class. I certainly am not rich, and need every paycheck. I'll have to get another job soon to make ends meet. But, this stand is important to all members of this industry - we all collect residuals. IATSE and Teamsters get residuals as payments into their health and pension. The corporations would like to cut us all out of the future profits they are making, and plan to make off the internet. They'd also like to see unions go entirely. Where will be then?

hey anonymous,

if the AMPTP hadn't started off negotiations with a list of insulting rollbacks, there wouldn't be a strike right now. how would you like it if i came down to where you worked and told you i'd expected you to do exactly the same job you're doing right now but for less money? probably pretty pissed off.

Anon - are you going to be posting this on every thread? Are the AMPTP paying you by quantity rather than quality?

I'm tired of having the same argument over and over again on here, so I'll just say that was a very cute dog and we need more of them on this blog. And all blogs.

I'd pay 4 extra cents to watch comedic gold like this on some sort of new media format. 8 extra cents if I hadn't seen his underwear. Maybe even a dime. Canadian.

I love this video! The crying jag was perfection.

Oh, and as for anonymous, s/he's clearly not paying attention. This stand in the short run is necessary for the long run. It will take a lot longer for writers to pay off loans and debt if they never receive residuals from new media or receive fair compensation from DVD sales.

I just heard NBC is picking up Quarterlife and will start airing the episodes in March. Does this mean that the networks can get around the strike by producing for the web through third parties and then acquiring it for network?

What if the writers union started selling ads for the shorts their members are producing? I bet they could bring in enough cash to keep this thing going forever.

And maybe they could work out some sort of revenue sharing system with the other unions to raise the production levels.
