Tuesday: Horror Writers to Exorcise Evil Spirits at Warner Brothers Lot

If at approximately 12:10pm tomorrow, Nick Counter reverts to his true form (a writhing pile of worms), well, he was warned. -JA

We, the horror writers of the WGA, don't necessarily believe that the AMPTP is evil. Rather, we believe they've been invaded by evil spirits whose devilish agenda is the destruction of our Guild. For this reason we have decided to conduct this exorcism for the mutual benefit of this industry. We may be dark souls, but we do believe that good eventually triumphs over evil.

We encourage our brothers and sisters in horror to join our procession by emailing Jace Anderson at creepymofo [at] roadrunner [dot] com or Scott Kosar at scottkosar [at] mac [dot] com. And, of course, we welcome ALL writers to come and support our fight at Warners Gate 4, Tuesday at noon.
Today was the toy drive, tomorrow the demon drive.

I believe that the Writers want to stay on strike. They sound like they are having too much fun. You know how they say, they would write even if they didn't get paid - well, seems like that's true. Why they are fighting for more money is beyond me.

Yeah, 'cause being on strike is SO much fun.

Anonymous, if why the writers are still on strike is "beyond you", then you've either chosen to not read a single other post on this (or one of the many other) sites that covers the strike... or you're just a moron.

You pick.

It just seems like the writers like to create without getting paid at all. They are having fun creating blogs, crappy celebrity videos, skits, special "strike" days, etc. They seem to love to create without getting paid, so why even ask for more money?

My brother the doctor helped me once when I hurt my leg. I wonder why he charges his patients a fair rate?

Anon 4:12 and 4:23,

Reason #436 why striking sucks: Having to read asinine comments such as yours on the writer strike blog.

Of course writers want to write, to create. They also want to keep their kids, their spouses, and themselves clothed, fed, educated, and housed. They can't do any of those things without being fairly paid for the things they create, the things they write. To gain that, they strike, and they use the creative gifts they have to convey their message and plead their cause as best they can, because until the strike ends, until their message gets across, they won't get paid. Makes perfect sense to me, Anonymous.

I think all labor unions (guilds)suppress talent. They protect mediocrity and incompetence. If all of the strikers were fired, it would be a breath of fresh air for the whole entertainment field. Labor unions lead to stagnation in any field, especially in teachers unions.

Good work Writers - your industry colleagues in Australia support your efforts.
To those who are complaining, there is no reason why writers can't create and have fun during a serious action. The more profile they raise the better.

Yeah I'll write without getting paid.

And I'll keep the stories and creative content to myself. To hell with ye, demons!

oh, yeah, and the free market system is doing so well, like in the stock market these days, or the housing industry.

I hope the writers cripple Hollywood, which is run by non-talent suits who prey on the creative forces of the talented and dedicated. Name one lawyer who's written a good script; show me one stuffed fucking suit bean counter asshole who could even get away with playing 'Man at Urinal' without getting heckled by small children. Writing is EVERYTHING. Deal with it.

Wow. The AMPTP demon trolls are out in force on this blog tonight. WGA! Get out there tomorrow and EXORCISE those suited trolls! Make them realize that they should have better things to do than spew their jealous rage at writers and actors...like...um...well, I can't think of what else suited trolls might be good for. Oh, yeah. They can write checks! TROLLS...go BACK to your caves and holes and start writing CHECKS! No creativity involved in that writing!

Jesus! Is this how you try to make a deal. Insulting people. Nick Coulter may not be your cup of tea, but mean-spirited s**t like this is hardly likely to get him in a mood for compromise! maybe the firts poster is right after all. maybe you all just WANT to strike. Civility should be a two-way street. You should be ashamed of yourself!

it's like this. none of us want to be standing out on a sidewalk holding a picket sign. it's an attempt to demoralize us in the first place. but we get out there every day, we show our faces, we put on our red shirts, we try and get people to honk their horns, etc.

but it's not what we want to be doing. we all want to go back to work. that said -- I think the videos and blogs and everything else shows the indomitable nature of the creative spirit. I'm not just talking WGA here. the creative spirit everywhere -- in every artist with something to say.

we're doing this to keep our spirits up. to show the other side that we can approach this strike with creativity. it's what we do. we create. it can't be turned off.

Writer Boi, Tell 'em!

Suited troll!! Did you not read that you are BANISHED!? Get thee back under thy bridge...and start writing those checks! Out!

If you guys had a day job I'd say keep it. If even half of the posters on this site are writers... it's no wonder no one notices you are on strike.

Walter LeCroy, to that I say HA! Unions protect the talent from the money men. Writers want to be n a union. It provides healthcare and other things that most who are not in freelance professions get from their employers. The 40 hour work week, vacations and weekends off, overtime, pensions, maternity leave, anti-child labor laws...these things were all fought for, and WON by unified labor - Unions. Management never freely gave any of these things. Things, basics, which all workers take for granted as their birth right nowadays

There is strength in unity.

Maybe this strike will make room for some fresh new writers out there who haven't let Hollyweird get to their brain cells (or soul). Ok, let the tomatoes fly...this is just coming from an independent artist on the east coast who sees a lot of talent get slapped in the face by unions. And no I'm not a troll, or elf, or midget with fangs...lol.

{from the Horror Writers Association}

The Horror Writers Association, on behalf of its writer members, stands in support of the Writers Guild of America strike in seeking appropriate compensation for writers when their work is distributed digitally, either via DVD or Internet downloads. Although HWA is not a union, it is an organization of writers that advocates for authors' rights. Writers Guild of America and its demands fall solidly into this category. All writers will be affected by the outcome of this strike, and we stand in solidarity, resisting those who seek to distribute our work on the Internet, DVD, or any format without fair compensation.
