One of the things I liked about the strike was writing my own picket signs, which I did all the time. At my blog (listed below) I wrote an article about one I specifically wrote one day, then asked James L. Brooks to sort of critique it, in a friendly way, which he did and that was great fun. I wrote a picket sign about having nine things in common with Diablo Cody, because it's true and the idea was to use the sign to promote awareness of the project I was writing. One of ny very favorites poked fun at NBC parent company GE for being really, really good at manufacturing professional and war equipment and then turning around and selling complete crap to consumers. I would also write more serious signs about things like the power of collective bargaining and when I got the chance I would carry the more creative and artistic signs like the Simpsons Honk! sign which Matt Groening noticed one morning and gave a friendly wave. I really enjoyed that part of the strike-I'm glad the strike is over because I can continue to work on my real projects but I feel glad I took it upon myself to get involved in something that meant so much to so many people, including me.

Obama rally sign for the win! And I think if the strike had gone on any longer, I would have gotten around to watching four seasons of The Wire too. Been meaning to catch up with that show.
found this over in the google ads...

google ads are often amusing. especially on mailing lists....
The strike signs were pretty funny, thanks John!
Wow, Pamela, just wow. That's nice. They should change the name to "Scabs 'R' Us" ... it'd make for grrreat! PR.
Pamela Jaye, that's hilarious!
As for those strike signs, funny. Where all those picketing signs going to go?
92.5%!!! Congratulations everyone
It's Over! Is it?

Hello United Hollywood,
I am an average television viewer and amateur movie critic, sometimes over enthusiastic about my love for media, but not in any way directly connected to the issues at hand. I have been reading your blog daily since pretty much the beginning. I've never commented here before but I wanted to thank you for all of the efforts that went into this project. The informative videos, the facts explained so someone like me can understand them, the creativity of the the "Why We Write" series and the speechless videos, the cool digs on the strike swag site and the endless coverage through posts and the UH Live Chat kept me informed and entertained throughout this time. When I read about vote tonight, words, ironically, could not express how happy I was for selfish reasons, like The Office, 30 Rock and LOST, but more importantly for the writers and the industry as a whole. For so many people like me, what you do is not only entertainment, but a part of our lives that give depth and the ability to connect with other people. I think think Kenneth Parcell said it best, "More than jazz, or musical theater, or morbid obesity, television is the true American art form. Think of all the shared experiences television has provided for us. From the moon landing, to the Golden Girls finale. From Walter Cronkite denouncing Vietnam, to Oprah pulling that trash bag of fat out in a wagon. From the glory and the pageantry of the Summer Olympics, to the less fun Winter Olympics." I know you must be thrilled to get back to writing (for something other than this blog) and I don't know what the plans are for this site, but before everyone goes their separate ways, I wanted to say thank you for everything.

@ ingala_a:
Wasn't the finale of the Golden Girls the one where they landed on the moon? Or am I remembering it wrong?
Here's hoping UH sticks around. There's still the SAG negotiations to witness, and all the talk about Guilds building solidarity to really protect all their interests is a very fascinating and important topic.
