Speechless (and Jokes at the Expense Of!)

One of the "Speechless" producers writes, "Jon Stewart last night did a bit on Speechless (about 6 mins in). I hate to say it, but pretty funny stuff."

are we really celebrating an AIDS joke Jon Stewart "wrote" here, on this board? Really?

He's been extremely ill-informed and extremely written in both shows he's done since he's been back.

Especially disturbing was his allusion to both sides not getting back to the table in show 1. This is untrue as it is the moguls who have stayed away. If you're gonna break WGA rules, at least don't hurt the cause further by spreading misinformation.

We rip Carson Daly and Jay Leno- but we post JS' comedy bits? That's a disgrace.

At the very least it should be pointed out that he (or someone) has clearly written the act 1's of both his shows since he's returned.

Not sure why anyone would 'hate to say it' about that. Jon is so clearly in the writer's corner and it was a very small amount of mocking to the 25 odd minutes of time that he spent on the show talking the strike up. It's like having your very own PR guy that you don't have to pay. Good stuff and I'm sure he's reaching a whole lot of folks. I was interested to hear news on the deal Job was talking about on Monday night. Why would Letterman's company get an interim deal and not Jon Stewart's? I'd like to know what the deal is with that because it doesn't seem like he'd be asking for terms that were any different than Letterman's.

The Sean Penn joke was the best of the night for Stewart

Wow, Zach Braff's clip is fabulous. It's nice to see his face in something other than a rerun! Here's hoping the strike ends soon!

Why are you linking to a video on Comedy Centrals website?

I thought that no one but studios got paid for watching that.

I have yet to watch a video on a studio website since before the strike started.

Wow... offensive and not even a little funny. Is this what happens when he doesn't have other writers in the room to help?

This was explained in a prior comments thread here.

The one thing I've loved about Jon Stewart is that he highlights asshattery on both sides of the Congressional aisle. He's not afraid to call people out for being silly, even if they agree with him, because he's a comedian and that's what he does.

So, bravo to him for making that "Speechless" joke. I did get a good chuckle out of that.

what's funny about this? The whole 7 minutes of this clip, Jon waffles and confuses and NEVER QUITE SAYS ANYTHING. And certainly he does not come to the writers' defense. Calling your show "A" Daily Show instead of "The" Daily Show doesn't quite cut it for me. This was NOT the time (his FIRST EPISODE BACK?!) to be making fun of anything the writers have done (Speechless vids, Sean Penn supporting us) in hopes of getting this strike to end sooner.
Clearly Jon needs his writers, cuz he can't write for shiz. I'm personally done with him. Even COLBERT, who's playing a character who's against unions and writers and the like came out defending his writers and stating his case more than Jon did. Despicable.
