EW Poll Finds 86% Of Public Aware of the Strike

EW.com has taken a poll on the WGA strike -- 65% of those polled were aware of the strike but not following it closely, and 21% were aware and following closely.

That's 86% of people polled aware that the WGA is on strike. As scripted television ceases to be aired, and as the Oscars loom larger, it seems like awareness will only increase. An earlier poll has shown that the public is solidly behind the writers getting a fair deal.

44% of the respondents are already watching less television. Maybe the congloms will look at some of these numbers and realize that gutting their own market just so they don't have to share pennies on the dollar with writers is not sound business.

Or maybe they'll just think it's funny that 20% of those surveyed thought the WGA was an organization for women pro golfers.

but the biggest problem with this stat is that the poll ran on an entertainment website, meaning the only people polled were those who were the site, and if you're on ew.com it means you're interested in entertainment and chances are those interested in entertainment (enough to go to ew.com and vote on a poll) you have a heightened interest in the strike.

unfortunately there's no doubt this number is inflated, as a more accurate poll (with a random sample of people across the country) would find that awareness of the strike is actually frighteningly low.

Try this poll, then, maybe.

Oh, actually, you're wrong anyway. Read the top of the page at EW: "We surveyed 1,000 folks by phone." This wasn't a web survey.
