MoveOn.Org Petition - Bring Back "The Daily Show"

The political website moveon.org has started a petition to bring back "The Daily Show":

Why are The Daily Show, Colbert Report, and other TV shows in re-runs? TV studios are refusing to pay writers fairly--causing them to strike.

The studios will make over $120 million in ad revenue this year showing TV programs on the web. But they want to give writers a one-time payment of $250—that's right, $250—for unlimited use of their content online. This unbelievable greed is keeping Jon Stewart and his team off the air.

Can you sign this petition to the studio executives--and then ask all your friends who love "The Daily Show" to sign it too?

A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to the major studio executives.

Believe me, anyone who's an avid late-night TV fan wants more than anything to have all these shows back. We've suffered the most withdrawal out of any TV fans out there. Problem is, after hearing some of our late-night TV hosts may be crossing the picket line, I'm hesitant to sign this petition. If signing this means our hosts would be more inclined to cross, then I'd rather wait out the reruns and celebrate when they return with the writers, and not a moment sooner.

I absolutely love the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and I would love it if they would come back online. There has to be a way to just by-pass the network stupidity and greed, and get this show off the air and online. I would happily pay a fee for internet streaming of shows like Jon Stewart's, show that really have value, but of course I would want to know that he and his writers are the ones profiting!

Screw the daily show, bring back Bill Maher!

Jon Stewart sans writers (himself included) would not be good. They only do interviews to fill up space, the real value of that show is in the writing and the coverage of daily news events. Jay or Conan can come back and just do interviews, but Jon (and Stephen) need to be able to write.

I love the Colbert Report and Daily show and would love to see them come back along with all my other favorite shows, so I signed the petition. I also sent an e-mail to NBC about Heroes episodes online and how I refuse to watch them until writer's are paid for episodes I'm watching (with commercials).

Such power! Both the Daily Show and the Colbert Report set to begin airing again Jan. 7th. Looks like the moveon.org petition drive worked but in a mysterious way - the shows without the writers. Does this also eliminate cue cards? or can they be used as long as they are improvised on the spot?

Now that TDS and Colbert are coming back Jan. 7 without their writers, how do you (writers) think that will affect the shows and the strike in general? Does anyone know whether this was supported by the WGA (I seriously doubt it, obviously) or the show's writers? As a die-hard Jon and Stephen fan I'm ecstatic that the shows are back, but I'm worried that the shows could deteriorate in quality or that Stewart and Colbert were strongarmed into returning. At least the shows should spotlight the strike and need for a settlement, as I'm sure every failed joke will be a reason for the hosts to excoriate the AMPTP for denying them their writing staffs.
