Who knew producers were so talented and funny? Almost makes me want to go work for them, they're soooooo clever and sweet...

Ummmmmm.

No, instead I think I'll just find out who sent those scripts in to MegaPictures BFD and picket outside of their houses, just to show how much I care.

wow... what a waste of time.

$200,000 a year, that'd be nice.

These guys are such a joke.

1st -what's wrong with working @ Trader Joes?

Using the word pu**y does not say much for them. That was the perfect way for people to STOP respecting you.

Your scabs - go to the doctor and get them taken care of.

Can't you see you NEED the writer's back? Without them, all we will have to watch is crap like the video you made. So sad, so sad. All that $$$, maybe you should hire a writer for your next "piss in your pants funny" video(total sarcasm). Oh wait, they would not be paid properly... why would they want to work for you?

That is one hilarious video : Scabs are for healing ! :p

Dude, the $200G's thing has sailed. No one believes it any more...

You know, it's gotten to a point where I can't even tell if this video is authentic, or a mock video. Was this supposed to increase sympathy for the AMPTP? Or make someone laugh? All it did was make me want to punch those two guys for their condescending tone and lame humor.

Agreed, waste of time.

HAAA!!! I love satire.

Someone had to point it out.

Hi I'm from Italy and watching this vid the first thing that I thought was: LAME.
Second: they're soooo desperate.

To all Writers: Hang in there guys! Keep fighting and stay together!
Lots of LOVE and RESPECT from one of millions of devoted fans.

If this is what we gonna see on TV without writers... Then I'll never gonna watch TV again.
And like Karen said: Was this supposed to increase sympathy for the AMPTP?

Sara Veth said...

Yeah, this is definitely satire. Think about the name of the production company they say that they work for.
Megapictures BFD.
As in...Big Fucking Deal.
Oh, and that also isn't a real company, which also tells you it's face.
And yeah, I WISH I could work at Trader Joes! I'm stuck in retail at the mall...

Satire? Go to any of the "Apparatus" fan boards and try saying that. Those people make Trekkies look like Smurfs!

You guys are right to bring this up now, since the future will see much more online content. Good luck to you all!

Anybody got an address for Megapictures BFD? I've been picking at some of my scabs, and I'd like to mail them to those 2 pussies to help the "healing process."

This strike has produced a lot of hilarious bits. I seriously love seeing what new things they create.

Something this funny could only be made by WRITERS who are on strike and have nothing better to do (except write on of the millions of spec scripts that will be coming out the day after the strike ends). PLEASE don't give the AMPTP credit for something this good.

In case you don't recognize satire when you see it, this video is a mock-serious way of saying DON'T BE A SCAB because you'd just be working for corporate jerk-offs who will discard you the second they don't need you anymore.

C'MON GET A SENSE OF HUMOR.

Anonymous said...

I sure hope people are just chillin instead, Anon. I finished a spec script about a week before the strike began. I hope it's not lost among the noise after this is all over.

MegaPictures BFD doesn't actually exist, so this is clearly a joke. Look it up on google or something: You won't find it.

Anonymous said...

hee hee...this is great! Hang in there, we are out here supporting you!

Anonymous said...

Sigh! Are they going to have to start teaching critical thinking and "how to recognize satire" in school?

Maybe it's a U.S. thing, Canadians are born and raised on satirical comedy.

I'm very surprised how little of this stuff is out there, you'd think writers could come up with a zillion little short and funny videos to get the word out.

If there were enough of them and they had a positive impact for the WGA on the negotiations it would be a nice irony considering the major issue at stake.

These people VERY smart. Stay with me here...

1. Brian Friedman (Google him) is a Freestyle Dance Choreographer.

2. The other name googled is VERY close to Fred Shultz. In the google I read it said "Dr. Fred Shultz, Healing Artist"

3. Their show "Apparatus" I got this wikipedia
"derived in part from Marxist film theory...It maintains that cinema is by nature ideological because its mechanics of representation are ideological. Its mechanics of representation include the camera and editing."

under Marxist Film Theory it states:
"Eisenstein's solution was to shun narrative structure by eliminating the individual protagonist and tell stories where the action is moved by the group and the story is told through a clash of one image against the next (whether in composition, motion, or idea) so that the audience is never lulled into believing that they are watching something that has not been worked over."

isn't that very similiar to "scripted reality tv?"

I think these guys were VERY cleaver. Perhaps the AMPTP needs to hire them...

If only this WAS from the AMPTP...

One of the best satirical videos to come out of the strike yet. Fingers crossed, it'll be the last one.

This was very, very funny. "Scabs - That tingle means it's healing." *snort* Well-written and hilariously acted.

(It's frightening to see from the comments how many people did not recognize this as satire. It doesn't make me very sanguine about the general level of awareness of my fellow human beings.

Oh, and FYI, some of you who feel compelled to be anonymous - astroturfers are so the new lame. I'm just sayin'...)

Anonymous said...

Oh... oh... that's just too bad.

Well, I suppose there's no question about there being a Writers Strike, with that pitiful display. It's.. just so painful.

Go Writers!

So... the people who think it's a real video from the AMPTP think it's a poor video.

And the people who think it's satire think it's a funny video.

I admit that whether or not it's perceived as satirical will influence one's understanding of the content of the video... But doesn't this divergence also suggest that most of the critical thinking of these responders is emotional, and tied to their allegiances rather than any actual objective awareness of the content?

Just pointing it out. I find this whole strike situation fascinating for what it reveals about people.

I just can't believe that they would go that far to be condescending. They're not gonna be pussies, no, but they'll be bullies for sure.

I haven't had actual television for years, but I still watch TV episodes often. I'm a huge fan of My Name is Earl, The Office, 30 Rock (Tina Fey deserves so much respect), Adult Swim cartoons, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, South Park (even though Trey and Matt aren't a member of the WGA) and I watch all these shows online. The NBC series I have to sit through ads before and during the programs. This is the new way of media distribution, it's been gaining since the beginning of this millennia, at first illegally because the big corporate fat-sos don't realize how important new media is, and how lucrative it can be. You cut a lot of middle men out when you upload episodes. More profit.

It as ABSURD that wtih such a cheap way to broadcast, writers don't get money off of THEIR ideas.

Also, the DVD formula being the same as the old VHS formula is completely ridiculous, seeing how DVDs cost a fraction to produce as VHS, and fit more information.

Go talented men and women in the WGA, I'm rooting for you here in ND! Get what you deserve.

You guys seriously thought this was real? Any of you?

It was clear that it was satire from the moment at the beginning where they were comparing ties. Whenever anyone in a produced piece of video says, "oh, we're rolling?" you can count on the fact that they knew from the beginning that they were rolling.

Come on, guys! This is hilarious!!!

Anonymous said...

guys, it's fake! there is no such company as megapictures bfd (big f-ing deal) and those two guys' names do not exist. i guess this is what makes a clever satire - people can't tell if it's real (obnoxious) or not (hysterical). since it's not real, my vote is for hyseterical :)

Anonymous said...

Wait, wait. You mean that wasn't satire? I could have sworn it wasn't serious.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely hilarious. Who are these guys, and who wrote for them?

Anonymous said...

that had to have been a satire, i just wish it would say

This comment thread explains PERFECTLY why brilliant shows like Arrested Development go off the air.

I always worry when a show seems to "smart" that middle America won't like it and it'll be yanked for some formulaic lowest common denominator mess. But it looks like the problem may be even worse than I thought.....youch!

Not even remotely. Context in this case is all.
